More Flyball???

Okay since I have been talking about flyball a lot recently I thought I would post some pics and video from the tournament this weekend. We are not used to playing flyball two weeks in a row!

Here is a picture of Loki and I. Loki is a Belgian Malinois and he has been racing since 2002. Each dog earns points for each race they run depending on how quickly the team finishes the race together. The most they can earn per heat is 25pts. Loki is less than 500 points away from earning his next title which is FGDCh40. Which means he has earned 40,000 points!

Scram didn't get to race much because there was only space for one of my dogs to race on Saturday and since I am working on Loki's title, Loki got to race not Scram. When he finally did get to race on Sunday he was crazy! Scrammy is next to earn a title. He is less than 2,000 points away from his FDGCh30. You guessed it, 30,000 points.
And finally I have a video for you. It isn't our team but it is fun to watch no matter who is racing.

This is a video of a team called Sundogs vs. a team called Dog Gone. Enjoy

This is the dog paw/tennis ball pendant I made and wear to each flyball tournament: (I can make one for you too!)

Well, off to recouperate from another tournament!

Exhausted from a weekend of flyball

Okay so this weekend we competed at a flyball tournament, Loki, Scrammy and I. Our team co-sponsored the tournament. There was a lot of racing and it is always fun to hang out with friends we have made over the years through flyball and our dogs. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures. You can learn more about flyball at www.flyballdogs.com/waverunners ~ our team website.

I was off work the week between Christmas and New Years and I didn't get much done of what I wanted to get done but I did make jewelry and I made more felt for our purse project. I will be posting the new Valentine hearts to my etsy shop hopefully tonight: www.dizzydogdesigns.etsy.com The last one I listed sold within an hour of listing! I had two commissioned pieces to make, a dog tag for a friend's frisbee dog (front and back pics here) and a bracelet for a co-worker. So those took up some time.

I am very tired and most probably delirious from the weekend's fun so I will just leave you with this funny vid I posted to my youtube account (chevycgc) of two of my silly dogs leapin' for squirrels.

Happy New Year! I hope this year will be a better one for everyone!

Getting ready for a craft show in a bad economy

Okay so as artists/crafters, how do we keep moving forward in a bad economy? How do we not stop frozen in our path afraid to spend money on the supplies needed to make our salable items and keep making the art that gives us peace? Well I have decided after a few months of not making anything to start creating again. You see I thought because the economy was so bad that my art was done for. No one would spend money on a "luxury" item any more. Well I realized that I really need to keep bending wire, firing glass and stretching my imagination.

My answer? Think less expensive. I decided to make things that would be a find for less than $25. My friend Mike says (Hi Mike) that at craft shows, people are likely to splurge on something nice for themselves if it is under $25. So I am going to give his theory a try. I am going to fill up my booth with things that I can afford to sell for a really good price...$5 - $25.

So here is my first go at it. Heart pins. Well not just hearts but that is all I have made so far. I plan on bending other shapes...

So from this:(sterling silver wire)

And by using some of these:
(Wire working tools) And some banging, twisting, stamping and the like,

We get some of these:So I guess this is the introduction of my new line of "Twisted Hearts" because we are all a little twisted at heart. Sterling silver heart pins for $10. So what are you all doing to sell your crafts in this economy? Or are you a buyer? What are you looking for when you buy handmade items? Post comments!

Wish me luck! And if you are interested in purchasing a few twisted hearts let me know! sally @ dizzy-dog.com

Thanks for checkin' in on me!

My first blog

Hi Everyone,

I really don't get this whole blog thing but blogging has gone on long enough for me to try it. You see I don't ever seem to get in on something until it has been going on for awhile. I dunno. Anyway, I thought I would introduce myself and what I do. I'm Sally and I make and design jewelry and gifty items. You can see my work at my website www.dizzy-dog.com or my etsy shop, www.dizzydogdesigns.etsy.com.

I am also heavily into my dogs. I have Loki, my Belgian Malinois (malinwah) who I found at the local animal control. He was the best $60 I ever spent. He is my love. He is just the best boy ever. I named him Dogma's Loki after the Kevin Smith movie "Dogma". It is one hilarious movie and I highly recommend it if you have a twisted sense of humor. Anyway, in that movie there were two angels who were cast out of heaven and were trying to get back in. One of the angels was named Loki and since I was a fan of that movie and I kinda felt like Loki was the same as that angel, trying to get back in to "heaven" so to speak, meaning he wanted to find a home that would be heaven to him, his name was borne... I could gush and gush about him but I won't bore you. He is an avid frisbee dog who prefers to catch the discs 5' off the ground and he is now the number 4 Belgian Malinois in all of North America in flyball having over 36,000 points.

Then there is Scrammy who's full name is Walkabout's Superfly Scrammisaurus. Sorry... I laugh every time I say that name or think about it. He is a Miniature Australian Shepherd who I purchased from a breeder ... www.walkaboutkennels.com. He is a very sweet boy and a lil crazy when it comes to flyball or frisbee. He is a little comedian to boot. His name came from an episode of "Everyone Loves Raymond" where Raymond's daughter got into trading "Pokemon-like" cards. The most prized card was for a character named a Scrammisaurus because he was the fastest character on the mountain (where the story took place). Oh and the Superfly came from Jimmy the "Superfly" Snuka who is a legendary wrestler and the name just seemed to fit in with the rest of it. Well because I had been involved in the sport of flyball where fast is king, a fast name seemed to fit. I especially love the looks on people's faces when I tell them his name.

Oh and Scram is the inspiration behind my logo. First the picture that became my logo which is of him shaking water off of himself. Don't ask me how I got the picture. It was purely luck because there is no photoshopping of the image as far as his eye placement or the blurriness of the rest of his face. I did use a program to add the blurry border though. I recently had him animated to be used as my logo. Which is my current logo:

The third dog to take up residence in my family was my lil girl named Hasty... you can see a pattern here right? Speed. Her full name is Wannabe Goin Full Tilt Boogie. I purchased her from a breeder www.wannabekennels.com. She is my "bad bubby". She is extremely sweet and very bad at the same time. I am told that runs in her family. She has some very distinct character traits seen in her mother. Hasty loves frisbee and herding. She does the most impossible catches of frisbees that I have ever seen. It's amazing to watch.

I have also taken in a lil jack russell named Nicky and because that name is just to common, not to mention I don't name my dogs people names it really doesn't fit so I call her Icky Nicky. She is cute as a bug and actually not much like a jack at all. She is more laid back but her inner jack does come out once in a while. When they were filming "Marley & Me" down in Miami, Nicky and I went down and played movie stars for the day. We were extras in the movie and I am sure because we were so far in the background you won't even be able to see us once the final production is completed. But we were there!

I also foster and volunteer for Mini Aussie Rescue www.miniaussierescue.org and currently have a foster in my house. He is a 9 mo old red tri mini aussie that I named Roadie.

This is him. Handsome boy with Amber eyes. You can see his information at http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=11623024

Okay, so that is my immediate family. What I hope for this post is to keep you updated on my latest jewelry endeavors as well as what my and my brood are up to in the dog sporting world.

You can see more of my dogs at www.flyindogz.us although Icky is not on the site yet.

Okay, is this brambling? Rambling in a blog?

Well, I will sign off for now...
